From my perspective
First meet
We first met online. I was looking for a potential girlfriend. My stepmom Nina was constantly reminding me that I was getting old and that I should meet new people. When I saw Tolu's profile I read it properly but i felt confused because i had been on the app for a long time and hadn’t seen her so i thought she studied somewhere else. She seemed to be arrogant when she sent me to read her profile. She said that she was looking for Czech teacher and because I love to get to know new cultures, it seemed like a good idea to teach her Czech and practice my English. We had a really good time at a cafe and mostly spoke in English. When I called Nina to tell her about the meeting, she basically forced me to ask Tolu out the next day for a trip to Podebrady because she felt like I could miss my chance.
When did we decide it was serious
We had been hanging out as friends for a while but I think at the back of our minds, we knew that there was something much more. We talked about everything, including relationships. Tolu mentioned that she was really hesitant to be in a relationship with someone Czech because she knew how attached Czech people are to their homes and how reluctant they are to leave. By that time, I already knew that I wanted to pursue a relationship with her and this was more important to me...and when she wrote me that letter, I was sure that she is The One.
Proposal
I was aware that I should talk to Tolu’s parents before I proposed to her. I wanted to send her parents a letter at first but Tolu’s brother, Bori, recommended that I should arrange a Zoom meeting too. It was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life, but fortunately, Tolu’s dad was really nice. Because Tolu’s mom was unable to attend the meeting, he told me to send him the letter and he’d talk to her. It made me so happy when they gave their approval.
Afterwards, I started planning the proposal. I bought a ring and asked my friends, Simon and Bara, to help me out with my plan. I told Tolu that we were going for a photoshoot in the park. We did a photoshoot with my friends and at the end, I proposed to her at the exact bench where I saw her for the very first time. She was so shocked that it took her almost a half minute to reply. I was so nervous that I nearly put the ring on the wrong finger but Simon saved the situation by shouting: hey man, that’s the wrong finger. When she said yes, it was one of the happiest moments of my life.
